The ICB Level 3 Diploma in Payroll Management course is designed for people wishing to gain a recognised qualification in Payroll. People who have previously worked in payroll and have not received a qualification. Wish to return to working in payroll and need to update their knowledge. Are already employed in payroll processing roles and wish to ensure that they have both a firm foundation and the knowledge and skills to perform both routine and non-routine tasks.

It could be that you intend to set up your own Payroll business, add the skills to an existing bookkeeping and accountancy practice or simply gain a better understanding of manual and computerised payroll to deal with your own employees Payroll.

Prerequisites.

The Level 3 Diploma in Payroll management does not require any prior qualification or experience in order to take the exam. We assume you already have ICB membership. If not we can arrange this for you at an extra cost.

About this Course:

This course is based on using both manual and computerised Payroll processes.

The course covers, in detail, understanding the importance of accuracy and security in performing any payroll task including PAYE and National Insurance calculations for employees and directors. Dealing with additional payments and allowances, via the Income tax system, such as Tax Credits, the payment of statutory payments for sickness, maternity leave, adoption pay and paternity pay and student loan repayments. You will learn how to apply the necessary calculations and preparation of both a weekly and monthly payroll and submitting payments to HMRC.

The computerised section of this course is based on using Sage 50 Payroll Professional software. The package is suitable for all companies as it is capable of dealing with unlimited employees and directors and for a professional bookkeeper or accountant can be used for multiple clients.
Learning how to use this software eliminates the need for extra training and enables you to easily adapt to other computerised payroll software packages and enhance your position when applying for jobs with the larger companies.

Due to the cost of the fully licensed software being in the region of £250.00 to buy we provide you with 180 days free use of the software for your studies. This is usually more than sufficient but we can extend this time in certain circumstances although a fee may be payable. You will also receive two Sage Business Partner certificates. One for each level of the Sage 50 Payroll Professional courses.

Duration.

50 hours of study. Duration 6 - 12 months.

Exams.

The exam can be taken from home by assignment. Papers are sent out by ICB virtually every Friday of the year. You will normally have between 10 and 14 days to complete the paper and return it to ICB for marking. Results can take up to two weeks.

Part 1 - Manual Payroll

1) Explain the legal requirements covering the following

c) Statutory Maternity Pay

2) Calculate and make relevant entries for the following
a) Holiday Pay
b) Statutory Sick Pay
c) Statutory Maternity Pay

3) Explain the legal requirements for PAYE and National Insurance covering benefits in kind e.g. company cars, business mileage, private medical insurance, loans, relocation packages

4) Calculate the tax and National Insurance due when an employee is given
a) a company car
b) Business mileage
c) Fuel
d) Employees using their own cars

5) Explain how various benefits such as bonuses and deferred payments to Directors can affect their payment of PAYE and National Insurance contributions.

6) Explain
a) why a P45 is used and what it represents
b) When a form P46 is used

7) Explain
a) Tax codes including K codes
b) Week 1 basis
c) Family Tax Credits
d) Disabled Persons Credits
e) Repayment of student loans

8) Explain the requirements for
a) Working Time Directive
b) Statutory Minimum Wage

9) Explain
a) The difference between contracted in and contracted out contributions
b) payment of NI contributions for persons with more than one job

10) Use appropriate tables to calculate the national insurance deductions for a given gross pay figure or both contracted in and contracted out employees

11) Complete the relevant parts of form P11 for national insurance contributions for both contracted in and contracted out employees


Part 2 - Computerised Payroll

1) Set up the details of a new business including:
i) Company details (Name, rates of pay etc)
ii) Employee details (name, employee no. tax codes including K Codes, week 1 basis),
2) Enter gross pay details to cover the following situations
i) Basic gross pay
ii) Holiday Pay
iii) Statutory Sick Pay
iv) Statutory Maternity Pay
v) Benefits in kind

3) Enter gross pay details to cover the following situations
i) Tax codes including K codes
ii) Week 1 basis
iii) Family Tax Credits
iv) Disabled Persons Credits
v) Repayment of student loans

4) Enter details of pay to cover the following situations
i) Contracted In and Contracted Out
ii) Directors

5) Run the payroll and produce the reports which will give details of gross pay, tax and NI paid, net pay

Monthly Instalments
Deposit - £115 followed by 5 monthly payments of £70
